The results of your needs assessment (first-aid) will help you decide how many first-aiders are required for your company. It's not an exact science and there are no concrete rules on exact numbers. You will need to take into account all the circumstances relevant to your particular workplace.  

The table in the HSE leaflet (download on the left) provides general guidance on how many first-aiders or appointed persons might be needed and a first aid needs assessment checklist.
